Hale Huna Kai is in the Puna distict of the Big Island of Hawaii. Puna is located south of Hilo on the East Coast of the Island. The area is known for many things but one that stands out is Kalapana and Kaimu Bay where in late 1990, the ongoing eruption of Kilauea's Kupaianaha vent covered the famous Black Sand Beach at Kaimu Bay. The house is a thirty minute drive from Hilo International airport. It is situated at the edge of Kaloli Bay less than 1/2 mile from Kaloli point. The surroundings are lush, verdant and tropical. Palms, orchids and plumeria plants abide. Flowering bougainvillea, poinsettia and hibiscus color the area. On most mornings you can look out the front door, over the driveway and see Mauna Kea ("White Mountain"), a dormant volcano.

Generally, the weather in Hawaii is wonderful! Temperatures range from 70°F in the evenings up to 90°F on the hottest of summer days. During the winter months day time temperatures range from 75° to 82°F. On the north and east of The Big Island, which is lush and tropical, it is not uncommon to a have a brief and cooling rain shower during the day, between periods of bright sunshine. To the southwest, rain is very infrequent.
